How to Recognize Gaslighting and What to Do About It

Gaslighting is an old concept with this new name. People with addictions are often quite good at the practice. Gaslighting is the attempt to make people “misremember” or doubt their sanity by presenting a false, alternate view of reality. “I never said that,” or, “you told me to take it,” or “the phone never rang here,” or “don’t you remember I was with you all day,” or “I can tell you did not take your meds.” Every statement is a lie, and they know it. But if they can make you doubt your memory or even your sanity, they get you off their back and they can keep getting away with murder (so to speak, I hope, lol!).
